Good News! DOI Sets Rules for the ISMS-Initiated Network Adequacy Law
March 24, 2023
On Tuesday the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) approved the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI)’s rules to support enforcement of the ISMS-initiated Network Adequacy and Transparency Act (NAT Act).
ISMS had encouraged the Department to ensure that consumers would have access to accurate provider networks – to include physicians who were actually in those networks.
We urge the IDOI to continue to use the tools supplied under the new law to fully enforce it. It is time to hold insurance companies accountable to provide what they have promised to their insureds. The new rules also support continuity of care for patients during any network transition.
ISMS applauds the IDOI for also establishing a Network Adequacy Unit, with staff dedicated to network adequacy and transparency issues.
We would like to thank Governor Pritzker, the IDOI, all members of JCAR and Senator Cunningham and Representative Spain.
