New Law Aims to Address Physician Shortage in Rural Areas

June 3, 2022

Governor Pritzker recently signed Senate Bill 3017 into law to address the physician shortages in rural Illinois. The goal of the bill is to attract qualified physicians to work in rural areas by providing financial incentives.

A provision of the legislation expands eligibility for loan forgiveness, allowing healthcare professionals who perform medical services in underserved areas to qualify for assistance. Previously, physicians who worked in private rural health clinics were not eligible for loan forgiveness.

The law took effect on May 17, 2022.
