ISMS-Backed Healthcare Reform Bills Now Signed into Law!

June 12, 2024

On Wednesday, Governor Pritzker signed into law his major healthcare reform initiative – the ISMS-backed Healthcare Protection Act (HPA).

This legislation, House Bill 5395 and House Bill 2499, will ensure that provider directories are updated on a regular basis with correct information, ban step therapy, limit the use of prior authorization for crisis mental healthcare for both children and adults, ban junk insurance plans and end unchecked rate increases for large group insurance companies.

ISMS President Piyush I. Vyas, M.D., was one of the speakers at the bill signing. “ISMS appreciates Governor Pritzker’s strong support of putting medical decisions back in the hands of patients and doctors,” said Dr. Vyas. “Every person in Illinois deserves access to quality and affordable healthcare in their communities without any delay and without interruption of the treatment.”
