Contact Your State Senator to Help Stop Independent Practice for Physician Assistants!

March 10, 2023

Dangerous legislation, Senate Bill 218, would remove the required written physician collaborative agreement for physician assistants (PAs) and grant them independent practice after they complete additional hours of continuing education and in-clinic training.

Testimony on Senate Bill 218 was taken in Senate Licensed Activities on Wednesday, including testimony by ISMS. The bill had significant opposition and was not called for a vote, which is great news. However, the bill could surface again so we respectfully urge members to continue advocating against this proposal by contacting their state senator. ISMS will be closely monitoring this legislation.

The sponsor of a related physician assistants bill, House Bill 2306, is not moving forward with this legislation at this time and we thank everyone for their advocacy!

If you have not yet contacted your lawmaker, please join us in the fight against this legislation.

Contact your state senator and urge a “NO” vote on Senate Bill 218.

If you have questions, please contact ISMS Senior Vice President of State Legislative Affairs Erin O'Brien by email.
