ISMS Physician Recognition Program
The Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) is excited to announce the third year of the Physician Recognition Program! This program is intended to be a place where individual Illinois physicians are appreciated and recognized for their commitment, contribution, and talent in the field of medicine, education, advocacy and volunteering.

Categories and Criteria
This award program offers recognition in the three (3) following categories.
Physician of the Year
- Actively practicing in their specialty
- Contributes extraordinarily in the field of medicine, education and/or advocacy
- Exhibits leadership talent within their practice setting, as well as their local community
- Contributes time and/or money in voluntary activities
- Ability to function well as part of a care team and is highly regarded by peers, patients, and community members
- Demonstrates strong personal integrity and the ability to create a strong patient-physician relationship
Physician Leader of the Year
- Contributes extraordinarily in the field of medicine, education and/or advocacy
- Exhibits leadership talent within their practice or institution, as well as their local community
- Is highly regarded by peers, patients and community members
- Goes above and beyond to contribute through leadership, education, position, and assistance to help develop leadership talent in peers and others
- Embodies the values of the medical profession through leadership and service to the public and the profession
Volunteer Physician of the Year
- Contributes extraordinarily in the field of medicine, education and/or advocacy
- Regularly contributes time, money, and/or services in voluntary activities
- Is highly regarded by peers, patients, and community members
- Uses innovative ways to improve public health through acts or service
- Goes above and beyond to provide voluntary contribution in medicine, education, advocacy, charity work, and monitory donations towards the field of medicine or advocacy

June 1- November 15, 2024
Who can submit a nomination?
Nominations can be submitted by a physician’s peer(s), patient(s) and/or community member(s).
Who can be nominated?
Any Illinois physician, regardless of membership status in ISMS.
When will the awards be presented?
At the 2025 ISMS Annual Meeting.
When will I be notified if I have won?
A physician panel will review nominations by January 19, 2025, with the winners being notified no later than March 1, 2025, in order to allow time for them to coordinate schedules to attend the meeting and accept their award.
