Congress Must Pass Bill to Stop Medicare Cuts, Increase Payments for 2025!
November 15, 2024
ISMS is strongly urging Congress to support H.R. 10073, The Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2024, introduced on October 29.
If Congress fails to take action before the end of the year, physicians of many specialties who are providing critical services to patients will be subject to another round of payment cuts on Jan. 1, 2025, due to statutorily mandated budget neutrality reductions.
Allowing a 2.8% payment cut to occur in 2025 will ultimately have serious consequences for physician practices in Illinois and the health of the patients they serve.
H.R. 10073 provides a temporary solution to Medicare’s broken payment system and will offer relief to the monetary issues facing physicians right now. The bill would stop the planned cuts outlined in the 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule rule and instead provide physicians with a temporary 12-month payment increase of 4.73%.
Physicians must have the security of knowing that their Medicare rates for 2025 will not be lowered and that they will receive a payment update that takes inflation into account.
