Keep These Insurance Open Enrollment Deadlines in Mind for Patients

Medicare’s open enrollment period is the same time window each year: October 15 - December 7. Your patients can change their Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage during this period.

If your patients’ plans are changing, they should make sure that their selections still meet their needs for 2024. Medicare health and drug plans can make changes each year, including changes to cost, coverage and provider networks.

Medicare’s open enrollment period ends Dec. 7, 2023. If your patients need more information, they can call 800-MEDICARE or visit www.medicare.gov. 

Health Insurance Accessed Through the Affordable Care Act

The open enrollment period for 2024 coverage for Get Covered Illinois, the Marketplace for Affordable Care Act coverage, started November 1 and will run through Jan. 15, 2024.

Patients can preview 2024 plans and prices by visiting www.HealthCare.gov.

Those who currently have Marketplace coverage will be automatically enrolled in a plan for next year to avoid a gap in coverage. Those patients will receive a letter informing them if they will be automatically enrolled into the same or a different plan.

Since most plans change each year, patients can ensure they have the best plan for their needs by revisiting all plan options for 2024.
