Monkeypox Resources Available for Illinois Physicians; View Map Showing Where the Virus Is Spreading

The Illinois Department of Public Health offers a comprehensive Monkeypox web page, which includes guidance for health professionals and a map showing the cases of monkeypox in each Illinois county and the City of Chicago.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, an individual diagnosed with monkeypox has died. It is possible that this case is the first-known fatality from the virus in the United States and the cause of death is now under investigation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is asking all healthcare professionals in the United States to be on alert for patients who have key characteristics for identifying monkeypox, such as rash illnesses. As we go to press, more than 21,000 cases of Monkeypox have spread across all 50 states.

The American Medical Association announced a CPT update for monkeypox testing and vaccination.
