Stay Current on Illinois’ Medical Cannabis Program

July 23, 2021

The Medical Cannabis Patient Program allows persons diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition to register with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to obtain cannabis for medicinal purposes.

ISMS’ newly updated medical legal guideline Medical Cannabis covers what physicians need to know about this topic, including Illinois’ Opioid Alternative Pilot Program (OAPP). The guideline also covers the process for certifying patients, requirements for the necessary written certifications for adults and minors, and the specific debilitating medical conditions that qualify a patient for medical cannabis.

While recreational cannabis is legal in Illinois, higher taxes are imposed on non-medical purchases.
