Rodney S. Alford, MD, MBA

Biographical Information:

Dr. Alford received his medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois and completed his residency at Cook County Hospital (Stroger) in both internal medicine and pediatrics. He also received an M.B.A. from Olivet Nazarene University. Dr. Alford served in the rural community of Pembroke Township, Illinois for almost 30 years, and then practiced at the Iroquois Memorial Hospital Multi-Specialty Clinic in Watseka, Illinois. He recently accepted a new position as Medical Director for the Pontiac Correctional Center.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Alford has been an ISMS member for 36 years; he currently serves as President and Delegate to the AMA. He previously served as ISMS Regional Trustee. Dr. Alford was also formerly the President of the Kankakee Medical Society, and a member of Riverside Medical Center’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Alford has received many accolades in his career including the Illinois Environmental Hero Award, the Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Service from NBC Chicago, the Illinois Rural Health Practitioner of the Year award (twice), and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Public Service Benefiting Local Communities (the highest award given in America for public service). He is a 2023 recipient of the ISMS Physician of the Year award.

 
Piyush Vyas, MD

Biographical Information:

Dr. Vyas received his medical degree from University of Baroda in India and completed his radiology residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He currently serves as Associate Director, Clinical Support Services at Lovell Federal Health Care Center.

Dr. Vyas has also been on staff at Rosalind Franklin University since 2005, where he presently acts as both Associate Professor and Vice Chairman of Radiology.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Vyas has been an ISMS member for 39 years; he is currently ISMS President-Elect and AMA Delegate. He recently completed service as and Chair of the Government Affairs Council; also previously serving as a Trustee and Chair of the International Medical Graduate Section. He also presently holds the office of President of the Lake County Medical Society and President of the Indian American Medical Association.

 

Thomas M. Anderson, MD

Biographical Information:

Dr. Thomas Anderson received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed both his internship and residency at the University of Chicago Hospital. He is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Radiology, and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.

Dr. Anderson is board certified in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine and serves full time as a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. He is currently on staff at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center as a senior attending radiologist.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Anderson has been an active ISMS member since 1975. He is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees, Region 3 Trustee and AMA Delegate/Delegation Chair. He previously held the office of ISMS President.

Dr. Anderson is also an active member of the American Medical Association, American College of Radiology, the Illinois Radiological Society, the Chicago Radiological Society and has formerly served as President and Board member of the Chicago Medical Society.

 

Richard C. Anderson, MD

Biographical Information:

Dr. Richard Anderson received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, followed by his surgical fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He is a member of the Peoria Surgical Group, as well as on staff at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Perry Memorial Hospital and Proctor Hospital.

Dr. Anderson holds multiple positions within the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria including Chief of the Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Anderson has been an active ISMS member since 1989 where he is currently serving as Secretary-Treasurer and Immediate Past Chair of the Board. Dr. Anderson also previously served as ISMS Vice President, as well as region and district Trustee. He is also a current Director of the Peoria Medical Society, Trustee of the Illinois Surgical Society and member of the Midwest Surgical Society’s Editorial Committee.

 

Tripti C. Kataria, MD

Biographical Information:

Dr. Kataria received her medical degree from University of Missouri – Kansas City, attained her anesthesiology residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and completed her cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center. She also holds an M.P.H. from Harvard University. Dr. Kataria is an anesthesiologist currently in private practice in Chicago, Illinois.

Professional Involvement :

Dr. Kataria has been a member of ISMS for 17 years, where she currently serves as Speaker. She has also been actively involved in organized medicine outside of ISMS, notably serving as Delegate and Vice Chair of the Section Council on Anesthesiology for the American Medical Association, Vice Chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Bylaws Committee, and President of the Illinois Society of Anesthesiology.

 

Frank Nicolosi, MD

Biographical Information:

Dr. Nicolosi received his medical degree from University Studies of Bologna in Bologna, Italy, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. Dr. Nicolosi currently practices urgent care and is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Rockford.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Nicolosi has been an active member of ISMS for 34 years. He currently serves as Vice-Speaker and was recently a member of the Council on Education and Health Workforce. Previous ISMS positions held include Chair of the Medical Legal Counsel and Chair of the Rules and Order of Business Committee for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 Annual Meetings.

Dr. Nicolosi has also been very involved in organized medicine outside of ISMS. Most notably, Dr. Nicolosi was previously appointed by the Governor of Illinois to serve on the Illinois State Medical Disciplinary Board from 2015-2018. He also previously served as President and on the Board of Directors of the Winnebago County Medical Society, as well as on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Urgent Care Medicine.

Biographical Information:

Dr. King received his medical degree form Ohio State University and completed his residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He currently practices family medicine at Swedish American Hospital and Mercy Health Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.

Dr. King has been on staff at the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Rockford since 2005, where he currently serves as both Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Chair of the Department of Health Sciences Education.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. King has been an active ISMS member for 18 years, he currently serves as Region 1 Trustee. He also previously served as an Annual Meeting Delegate, as a member of Council on Medical Service and on the Council on Education and Health Workforce.

Dr. King is also an active member of the Winnebago County Medical Society. He currently serves as the organization’s Treasurer and previously held the offices of President, Vice President, and Secretary.

Dr. Oliver has been an active ISMS member for 30 years. He currently serves as Region 2 Trustee, Chair of the Finance Committee, and Board Member; as well as a member of the IMPAC Council and ISMS Sponsorship Panel. Previously, Dr. Oliver served as MSS Chair, RFS Vice-Chair, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and a member of several ISMS Committees.

Outside of ISMS, Dr. Oliver currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Will-Grundy County Medical Society and the Board of Trustees for the Premier Suburban Medical Group.

Dr. Stokes received his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Loyola University Hospital. He is presently Chief of Surgery at St. Joseph’s in Murphysboro and the Director of Urology at SIH Medical Group. Dr. Stokes is also on staff at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale and Chester, Illinois. Dr. Stokes also serves on the Physician Surgery Center’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Stokes has been an ISMS member since 2004; he currently serves as Region 4 Trustee and was previously a member of the Council on Education and Health Workforce. Dr. Pedersen has been an active ISMS member since 1980, currently serving as Region 5 Trustee. He previously held the office of ISMS President 2019 – 2020.

Dr. Pedersen has been the Board President of the Rural Illinois Medical Student Assistance Program since 2014, and currently serves as Director of Community Health Care Clinic and Board member of the Community Cancer Center.

Biographical Information:

Dr. Derick received her medical degree from the University of Chicago, and completed her internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and her dermatology residency at University of Chicago Hospital where she was Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Derick is the founder, owner and CEO of Derick Dermatology, LLC which she started in 2006.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Derick has been an active ISMS member for 12 years. She currently serves as Trustee-at-Large, Board Consultant for the Council on Economics, and is a member of the Government Affairs Council, IMPAC and the Endorsement and Sponsorships Board Panel.

Dr. Derick is also very involved in organized medicine outside of ISMS. She is currently the Chair of the Illinois Dermatology PAC, and member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association’s Federal Affairs Workgroup. She is also Vice Chair, Executive Committee Member and Advisory Board Member of the American Academy of Dermatology in addition to being involved on multiple committees.

Along with her work in various medical societies, academies and associations, Dr. Derick has held multiple government posts. She is currently on the Nominating Committee and a Fellow for the Federation of State Medical Boards. She was also previously appointed by Governor Pritzker as a member, Vice Chair, and then Chair of the Illinois State Medical Disciplinary Board.

Biographical Information:

Dr. Mardjetko received his medical degree from the University of Illinois and completed his orthopedic surgical residency at University of Illinois Hospital followed by fellowships in spinal deformity and pediatric orthopedics at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center.

Dr. Mardjetko is currently the Chief of Orthopedic Spine Surgery and Director of the Pediatric Spine Program at Lutheran General Hospital, as well as attending staff at North Shore Hospitals. Dr. Mardjetko is also on the teaching staff at the University of Illinois Hospital – Chicago and Rush Medical College. 

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Mardjetko has been an ISMS member for over 30 years. He currently serves as Trustee-at-Large and is a member of the Council on Economics. Outside of ISMS, Dr. Mardjetko serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Association of Orthopedic Surgery and is an active member of several medical professional societies including the American Medical Association, Illinois Orthopaedic Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.

 

Sachin Patel, MD

Dr. Zorriasateyn received his medical degree from the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran where he also completed his surgical and medical internships. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois – Chicago Hospitals where he was Chief Medical Resident in his final year. He also completed his fellowship in vascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s Heart and Vascular Institute.

Dr. Zorriasateyn is currently the Director of the Arteriopathy Clinic and an attending physician at the NorthShore Cardiovascular Institute and NorthShore University Health System.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Zorriasateyn has been an ISMS member since 2010, where he currently serves as Trustee-at-Large and member of the Council of Economics. He is also a member of the Society for Vascular Medicine and American Board of Hospital Medicine where he previously served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Certification for Hospital Medicine.
