What is the health insurance marketplace?
The health insurance marketplace is a central source for health insurance coverage created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Interested individuals, families, and small business owners may obtain health insurance coverage through the marketplace that has been established for their state. While each marketplace may vary in benefits and funding, the State of Illinois has chosen to pair with the federal government in offering options to its residents.
The open enrollment period for new coverage is now closed.
There is a special deadline for patients currently enrolled in an ACA plan. If you are enrolled in an ACA plan and take no action before December 15, you will be re-enrolled in your existing policy for 2017. However, the cost of the plan, benefits package, and the network of doctors and facilities that are included in the plan most likely will have changed from 2016 to 2017, so take time to review your current policy to assure that it meets your needs.
The State of Illinois has named plans for participation in the healthcare marketplace. Coverage options within the named plans may vary dependent upon the types of benefits that healthcare consumer's desire - the plans are segmented into Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Each plan provides a different co-insurance level.
