Established in 1961, the Illinois State Medical Society Educational and Scientific Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization affiliated with the Illinois State Medical Society, and is staffed through the ISMS headquarters.
Our Mission
The Educational and Scientific Foundation provides support for educational, scientific, and benevolent matters, including:
- The development of education for patients, physicians and others to improve knowledge, such as public service announcements and continuing medical education courses.
- Medical student, resident, and fellow leadership programs to help support those individuals pursue careers in medicine.
- Assistance to ISMS members in need.

Patient Education
The Educational and Scientific Foundation works to facilitate the physician/patient relationship through patient education initiatives, including public service announcements. The Foundation has provided educational materials for patients on issues such as advance directives, the Illinois health insurance marketplace, patient safety, deep vein thrombosis, Hepatitis C screening, opioid misuse and obesity/weight management.
Medical Education
The Educational and Scientific Foundation also provides funding for continuing medical education. These initiatives include support for educational programming through the ISMS Education Center and for programs such as the Illinois Residency Program Directors' Series and various other educational programs for practicing physicians.
Benevolence
The Educational and Scientific Foundation provides assistance to ISMS members in need.
