Who can attend?

Residency program directors and professionals involved or interested in medical education. Residents and fellows are also welcome.

The meeting will conclude early in the afternoon, giving you plenty of time for an afternoon of holiday shopping on Chicago's Magnificent Mile.

At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss six common traps that create unfairness and inconsistency in the evaluation of resident clinical competence and the strategies that PDs and faculty can use to avoid them.
  • Recognize 15 key points to effectively handle an underperforming resident.
  • Describe six critical elements of an educationally sound and legally defensible Formal Academic Remediation (FAR) plan.
  • Demonstrate narratively the legal requirements of educational due process (i.e., Academic Law).
  • Identify best practices for increasing awareness of challenges to advancing diversity in academic medicine.
  • Identify and implement recommendations on programmatic and policy interventions to address diversity and inclusion.

The Illinois State Medical Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The Illinois State Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
