Doctors Urge CMS to Address Administrative Burdens of Prior Authorization

October 9, 2019

ISMS joined 100 national and state medical organizations to strongly urge the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to implement five major reforms related to prior authorization (PA) that would reduce administrative burdens in healthcare.

In our message we noted that while we applaud CMS for tackling the significant problems caused by PA, there is still concern that CMS is focusing solely on automation as the solution. Automation is important, but it’s only one of the reforms needed to address the labor intensive work that physicians face with arduous prior authorization requests.
