Encourage Patients to Properly Dispose of Unwanted Medications!

October 4, 2024

Twice a year the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts a drug take back day to build awareness about appropriately disposing unused or outdated prescriptions. The event encourages the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing them from getting into the hands of those who might misuse the drugs.

Remember, unwanted prescription medications should be disposed of properly.

The DEA’s previous Drug Take Back Day held in April 2024 resulted in the collection of 335 tons of unused or expired prescription medication and vape devices at 4,869 collection sites nationally.

For safe disposal of controlled substances, let patients know about the DEA’s next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26. For year-round disposal of controlled substances, locate a convenient collection site.

Unless you’re an authorized collector, your team should not accept medications from patients.
