Scammers Impersonating DEA Agents Are Calling Doctors
August 6, 2021
Legitimate DEA personnel will never contact members of the public or medical practitioners by telephone to demand financial payment or request sensitive information. Legitimate DEA personnel will only notify people of an investigation in person or by official letter.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is warning the public of another new telephone scheme in which scammers pretend to be DEA agents in an attempt to extort money or steal personally identifiable information. ISMS has recently heard from a few members who have been contacted by individuals posing as DEA agents.
Anyone receiving a call from a person claiming to be with DEA should report the incident to the FBI here. Reporting these scam calls will help federal authorities find and arrest those engaged in this scam.
If you have questions, please contact the ISMS Legal Division by email.
