Updated March 1, 2025
ISMS continues to receive a steady stream of inquiries about a new law that provides a medical licensure pathway for International Medical Graduates (IMG) who have not completed a two-year residency. That’s why we developed a Q&A on this topic for our members!
ISMS-backed legislation led to the new law in 2023, providing a pathway for certain IMGs, who weren’t previously eligible, to obtain a medical license.
While the law states that effective Jan. 1, 2025, certain international medical graduate physicians may apply to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) for a limited license, the Department has just begun the process of promulgating the administrative rules that will establish the specifics for this pathway.
It will take several months before those administrative rules are published and finalized. Please check back with this website regularly for updates, including access our Q&A resource today!
