HFS Boosts Immunization Administration Rates Under the Vaccines for Children Program

January 7, 2022

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) recently announced an immunization administration fee increase for providers, which took effect Jan. 1, 2022.

Directed by a new Illinois law, the increase affects vaccine administration fees under the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program for both Medicaid fee-for-service and the HealthChoice Illinois managed care plans for children from birth through 17 years of age.

The increase raises the Department's VFC vaccine administration fee to $12.56.

Please note: HFS is awaiting approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services before implementing the rate increase for fee-for-service (FFS) claims. FFS claims with dates of service beginning Jan. 1, 2022, will be held by HFS pending CMS approval.

The rate increase for HealthChoice Illinois took effect January 1.

Review the immunization administration procedure codes impacted by the rate increase.
