Urge Your State Senator to Vote “NO” to Grant Physician Assistants Independent Practice!

February 28, 2025

Physician assistants are trained to work as part of a team with a physician

Dangerous legislation for patients, Senate Bill 271, has worked its way into Illinois’ Spring legislative session – currently assigned to the Senate Licensed Activities Committee.

This bill would negatively impact patient care by granting physician assistants (PAs) independent practice and removing the collaborative agreement with a physician once the PA has completed minimal hours of continuing education and clinical training under the guise of optimal practice.

Further, the proposed legislation would allow PAs to prescribe and administer all drugs, including Schedule II narcotic drugs by injection in all healthcare settings.

As you know all too well, this is extremely unsafe for patients!

While PAs are essential in a patient’s care and treatment, there is no substitute for having collaboration with a physician who has a far more training and education.

Please urge your Illinois senator to oppose this bill by voting “NO” on Senate Bill 271.
