ISMS has been receiving a steady stream of inquiries about the new law affecting International Medical Graduates (IMG) licensure. That’s why we developed a Q&A on this topic for our members!

ISMS-backed legislation led to the new law in 2023, providing a pathway for certain IMGs, who weren’t previously eligible, to obtain a medical license.

The law states that effective Jan. 1, 2025, certain international medical graduate physicians may apply to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) for a limited license.

However, to date the IDFPR has not issued rules elaborating a process for licensure.
