The IDFPR Is Warning Licensees About a Scam Targeting Personal Information

August 4, 2023

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is warning holders of professional licenses about a new scam that aims to access personal information.

Here’s how it works: The scammers send a letter to an Illinois licensee that gives the appearance that the communication is coming from the IDFPR. The recipient is informed in the letter that their license has been suspended and that they must call a cell number that is also included.

If you should receive such a letter, do not call the number.

Important to know: The IDFPR uses a deliberate enforcement process and does not suspend licenses by sending a letter.

If you’d like to check, you can confirm the status of your license by using IDFPR’s licensing online lookup tool.
