Medicaid Patients Must Update Their Address to Ensure Continued Coverage!
August 3, 2022
If your medical office treats patients who have Medicaid insurance, be sure to relay this important message: They are at risk of losing their health insurance if they do not update their mailing address with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS).
Patients with Medicaid insurance have not had to renew their benefit eligibility information in recent years due to the federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE). As a result, HFS’ data could include outdated addresses.
Once the PHE ends, HFS will be contacting enrollees about renewing their eligibility information. As part of this process, the agency will need to send paperwork to a physical address.
To update addresses, patients can:
- Call the HFS hotline at 877-805-5312 (TTY: 877-204-1012)
- Access HFS’ online form: Report Medicaid Change of Address
At this time, the latest extension of the PHE is effective through Oct. 13, 2022.
