Are You Vaccinating 'Underinsured' Patients for COVID-19

May 21, 2021

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced a new program called the COVID-19 Coverage Assistance Fund (CAF)

This program will cover the costs of administering COVID-19 vaccines to patients enrolled in health plans that either do not cover vaccination fees or cover them with patient cost-sharing. Since patients cannot be billed for COVID-19 vaccination fees, this new program compensates healthcare professionals vaccinating underinsured patients.

CAF will accept eligible claims dated on or after Dec. 14, 2020, and is being funded through the Provider Relief Fund Program and rolled out by HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
