Treating Patients Who Are Eligible for COVID-19 Therapies
May 20, 2022
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) encourages healthcare professionals to quickly assess patients who have COVID-19 (within five days of the onset of symptoms) to determine whether they are eligible for treatment. At this time, four options are available for treating mild to moderate COVID-19 illness in non-hospitalized people:
Remdesivir is currently the only outpatient treatment option for children under the age of 12 years.
These treatments can lower the chance of progression to severe illness, hospitalization and death and can be administered at home or in an outpatient setting. Prescriptions can be sent to IDPH’s federal pharmacy partners (Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and Meijer) or community pharmacies listed in this treatment locator.
