Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS)

Incentive payments for successfully reporting quality measures in the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) ended in 2014. Starting in 2015, providers may be subject to a penalty if they did not successfully participate in PQRS in the associated reporting year. Note that PQRS penalties are assessed based on a reporting year two years prior to the current year

PQRS reporting in 2013 and 2014 has already determined payment adjustments for 2015 and 2016. In 2015, a negative payment adjustment of 1.5% will be assessed on Medicare-allowable physician fee schedule payments for providers who did not successfully participate in PQRS in 2013. In 2016, physicians who failed to successfully participate in PQRS in 2014 will receive a 2% reduction.

Now is the time to act to avoid penalties in 2017 and 2018. Actions you take in 2015 and 2016 will determine your payments in future years.
