ISMS Speaks Up for Medical Students Who Wish to Also Pursue Parenthood
medical students

Many aspiring physicians fear that pursuing medical studies will force them to delay their dreams of also becoming parents – or give them up entirely.

ISMS believes that individuals should be able to choose to attend medical school and become parents at the same time, and that medical schools can play an important role in supporting those who do so.

We recently reached out to the deans of medical schools in Illinois to encourage them to review their policies and resources to ensure that there is a culture that is flexible and supportive of students who choose to pursue parenthood while attending medical school. If we provide the right support for those who choose this path, our profession and our patients will benefit.
