More Clarity, Less Burden on Docs Needed for FOID Card Reporting
Posted on: 3/14/2014

In a letter to the Department of Human Services, ISMS formally comments on mental health reporting rules for the Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card.

The comments target the emergency rules requiring physicians to report patients who pose a "clear and present danger" to themselves and others, and patients who have developmental disabilities. Clarification is needed for these reporting obligations; the rules also need to be less onerous for Illinois physicians.

ISMS will continue to monitor requirements for physicians regarding the FOID card.
