Stop the Backlog of Medicare Appeals
Posted on: 2/21/2014

ISMS joins 97 state and national medical societies to urge the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to find an immediate solution to the backlog of Medicare appeals.

Requests for hearings made by physicians and other health care professionals are currently delayed up to 28 months, with an additional six months of wait time for post-assignment hearings.

By delaying the assignment of cases by more than two years, the department is essentially denying timely disposition of disputes concerning erroneous payments.

With the numerous regulations physicians face today, they do not have available resources to navigate an "endless" appeals process.

Over-extended timeframes for Medicare appeals must be addressed now!
