ISMS Urges Congress to Eliminate IPAB
Posted on: 2/7/2014
An ISMS communiqué directed to members of the U.S. House of Representatives reiterates our continued support of legislation to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), a group of 15 members, appointed by the President, with considerable power to implement damaging Medicare payment cuts in order to control health costs nationally.

Our letter expresses deep concern that this board, which was created by the Affordable Care Act in 2010, will severely limit seniors' access to care and interfere with the physician-patient relationship. Of grave concern to physicians is that any spending reductions instituted by IPAB will most likely include cuts to physician reimbursements that will directly impact access to care.

This advocacy effort aligns with ISMS Resolution B204 (A-13), Eliminate IPAB. Promote Freedom of Choice for Patients and Physicians.
