Save Lives with a S.M.I.L.E.
Posted on: 1/24/2014

More than 350,000 people die annually due to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the United States. In fact, sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death.

That's why ISMS has partnered with the Chicago Medical Society and American Heart Association to promote S.M.I.L.E. (Saving More Illinois Lives through Education), an effort to educate health care professionals, as well as the general public, about the importance of acquiring basic emergency resuscitation skills.

ISMS also supports public awareness of hands-only CPR. Research has shown that hands-only CPR (chest compressions only; no mouth-to-mouth ventilation) is as effective as traditional CPR.

Find training close to you via a "zip code search" through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
