Broken Medicare Payment System Puts the Squeeze on Physicians
Posted on: 10/25/2013

True - there has been more congressional activity in 2013 than in recent years to dismantle the flawed sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. Yet, the fact remains that a 24.7 percent Medicare payment cut is scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

While an SGR cut for this year was temporarily postponed, Medicare reimbursement is already down 2 percent in 2013 as a result of federal "sequestration," as required by the Budget Control Act of 2011.

Physicians cannot absorb any more cuts to their Medicare reimbursements.

Call to action
You can take action by contacting your lawmakers via email or calling 800-833-6354. Urge them to avert the scheduled cut of 24.7 percent on Jan. 1, 2014, and to continue working toward a permanent solution for Medicare's broken payment system.

Our country's senior citizens and military families covered through TRICARE deserve better!

(Please note: Whether you use the email link or call the 800 number, you will be directed to the U.S. representative of your specific congressional district or your U.S. Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin.)
