  • Attention Small Business Owners: Assistance Coming Soon to Help You Access Federal Financial Programs

Illinois will soon be hiring new “community navigators” to assist Illinois small business owners, such as medical practices, with accessing federal COVID-19 emergency financial programs and to help with the somewhat complicated application process.

In the meantime, here's an update on federal relief programs:

    • The U.S. Small Business Administration recently reopened the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and EIDL Advance program portal to all eligible applicants experiencing economic impacts due to COVID-19.

    • The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) began “Round 2” earlier this month, distributing loans for small businesses, which includes medical practices, to help keep their workers on the payroll during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about what the U.S. Small Business Administration is currently offering.

  • Here’s How to Build Relationships with Your Legislators!

Do you know who represents you in Springfield? More important, do you know how to get their attention on a critical issue that could affect your practice – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To help you advocate effectively for your profession, ISMS has developed a practical resource for our members. Legislative Advocacy: An Illinois Physician’s How-To Guide will help you get in touch and build relationships with your legislators so that you can advocate on the issues that matter to you.

Even though COVID-19 poses challenges to the General Assembly’s in-person sessions, now is still a good time to get familiar with your lawmakers and to start building those relationships.

Illinois doctors play a crucial role in Springfield. No one speaks more effectively for medicine in this state than Illinois physicians.

  • Reduce Your Practice Risk When Prescribing COVID-19 Medications

In the midst of the pandemic, information related to medications used for COVID-19 treatment is rapidly changing. This could pose significant risks, including adverse drug interactions and polypharmacy, for physicians and patients when adding COVID-19 treatments to a patient’s medication regimen.

Minimizing this risk is of utmost importance in providing safe patient care.

ISMIE Mutual* offers a new webinar to address this risk, Medication Safety Considerations During the COVID-19 Pandemic, taking place March 16 from noon to 1 p.m. The program will cover risk management strategies for COVID-19 treatments and supportive/alternative therapies, along with the latest guidance and common adverse effects.

    • Registration is open to ISMIE policyholders, ISMS members and their staffs at no cost.
    • CME offered | Register here.

  • Patients Need Relief from Sky-High Prescriptions Costs – Especially During the COVID-19 Pandemic!

While COVID-19 has dominated the headlines for months, many Illinois residents are also dealing with health issues unrelated to the virus that may require medications. In addition, many have lost their jobs and health insurance.

The Illinois Rx Card may be able to help ease the burden of costly prescription medications for your patients. This savings program is designed to help those who may be uninsured, underinsured or who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits – but anyone can use it.

Patients (and physicians) can save up to 80% on prescription drugs by using this free card. All they need to do is present the card at a pharmacy when paying for a prescription.

In instances in which patients are unable to go to the pharmacy in person, they should call the pharmacy to provide the information and the discount can be applied.

If you are interested in ordering cards for your practice, clinic, hospital or for yourself, please contact Program Director Charlie Hartung by email or call 888-615-1988. The card can also be printed at home or in your office.
