  • On Monday, Illinois Moves to Phase 1B for COVID-19 Vaccinations

Starting Monday, January 25, the entire state of Illinois will begin Phase 1B for COVID-19 vaccinations, which includes:

    • Residents age 65 and over – 1.9 million adults in Illinois qualify

    • Frontline essential workers – 1.3 million Illinois residents qualify (first responders, education, food and agriculture, manufacturing, corrections workers and inmates, USPS workers, public transit workers, grocery store workers and staff at shelters and day cares)

Physicians who want to order vaccines to be administered in their offices must enroll in I-CARE, IDPH’s web based immunization record-sharing application. Also check out the IDPH’s new daily vaccination data web page, offering up-to-date information about vaccine distribution and administration.

  • The Negative Impact of EHRs on Patient Care, Physician Well-Being

According to a new study, health professionals working in the United States spend more time, both during the workday and after hours, engaging with electronic health records (EHRs) than those in other countries.

Last year ISMS adopted a resolution to educate the public about the amount of time physicians spend on data entry versus direct patient care. The burden of data entry also contributes to physician burnout. ISMS’ infographic is being shared on our social media platforms, along with content related to how EHRs contribute to physician burnout.

  • ISMS Dues Vary for Part-Time Members, Retired Doctors – Learn More

Did you know that ISMS offers a part-time membership status with reduced dues? Retired physicians may also belong for a significantly reduced membership fee of $50.

Please contact us if you are making a career change that will impact your membership status.

Members must meet certain requirements to be eligible for these categories:

For retired members: A retired physician must have been a regular member and by reason of age or incapacity have retired from active practice. Retired status is not available to physicians who assume compensated positions in the healthcare field after retiring from medical practice.

For part-time members: A part-time member must work 20 hours or less per week, whether the hours worked are clinically related or another type of healthcare related employment. To be eligible for part-time status, the member must obtain a cover letter from their medical liability insurer or a note from an employer verifying their hours of employment.

If you meet or will soon meet the requirements noted above, contact the ISMS membership team by email to switch your status.
