Posted on: 3/12/2021

Legislation that will address bureaucratic delays caused by prior authorization is advancing further in Springfield. On Tuesday, ISMS-backed legislation ( House Bill 711) was voted favorably out of the House Human Services Committee

Known as the Prior Authorization Reform Act, some of the key provisions of this comprehensive initiative include:

  • Establishing deadlines for prior authorization decisions – 24 hours for urgent care services and 72 hours for nonurgent care – so patients would no longer have to worry about insurers’ decision-making delays causing further damage to their health.
  • Ensuring that prior authorization requirements are based on medical evidence and that decisions are administered by qualified professionals.

Your help is needed! Please contact your state representative today and urge support of House Bill 711 – The Prior Authorization Reform Act.
