Your Help Needed! Contact Your State Representative to Urge Support of Prior Authorization Reform
Posted on: 3/5/2021

It’s time to fix prior authorization in Illinois

Legislation designed to address bureaucratic delays caused by prior authorization is advancing in Springfield.

Known as the Prior Authorization Reform Act, this initiative would establish deadlines for prior authorization decisions – 24 hours for urgent care services and 72 hours for nonurgent care – so patients would no longer have to worry about insurers’ decision-making delays causing further damage to their health.

The Act would also ensure that prior authorization requirements are based on medical evidence and that decisions are administered by qualified professionals.

Last month, the ISMS-backed legislation (House Bill 711 and Senate Bill 177) was introduced in Springfield. Earlier this week, House Bill 711 was assigned to the Human Services Committee and is expected to be heard on the House floor next Tuesday.

ISMS appreciates the bipartisan support from more than 50 house co-sponsors who are dedicated to ensuring timely patient care to protect the residents of Illinois!

Yet, your help is still needed. Please contact your state representative today and urge support of House Bill 711 – The Prior Authorization Reform Act.

Our message to Illinois patients is simple: Your care can’t wait!
