  • Federal Executive Order Could Imperil State-Based Scope of Practice Limitations

    President Trump recently issued an Executive Order titled “Protecting and Improving Medicare for our Nation’s Seniors.” While this title purports to protect our nation’s most vulnerable, the proposal could actually put the health of senior citizens at risk. 

    Although some of the provisions in the Order could provide favorable regulatory relief, the proposal includes language that could weaken or even lead to the elimination ofsupervision requirements for non-physician healthcare professionals.

  • Public Health Legislation Takes the Spotlight in Fall Veto Session

    As the fall veto session continues next week in Springfield, ISMS is working hard on behalf of Illinois physicians to back key public health bills that would ban candy-like flavors for both tobacco and nicotine products and cap out-of-pocket costs for patients to $100 for a 30-day supply of insulin.

    Given the daily coverage of death and illness from vaping, it is not surprising that lawmakers are seeking to address this growing epidemic related to flavored e-cigarettes. Further, patients must have affordable access to insulin.
