Only 1 in 3 Americans Fill Out Advance Directives; ISMS Offers Resources
Posted on: 4/9/2019

As a direct result of ISMS advocacy, Medicare now reimburses physicians for time spent counseling patients on advance care planning decisions.

National Healthcare Decisions Day takes place next week on April 16, with the goal of shining the spotlight on advance care planning.

A recent study found that most people avoid tackling the delicate task of advance care planning.

ISMS offers helpful resources to help you invite patients to discuss their future healthcare wishes. A Personal Decision is a free downloadable booklet that includes practical information, sample forms, and guidance on advance directives current with Illinois law. ISMS members can order up to 300 print copies per year free of charge – contact us to order.

ISMS also offers other resources for physicians on advance directives:

A Physician's Guide to Advance Directives: Living Wills*

A Physician's Guide to Advance Directives: Healthcare Surrogates*

A Physician's Guide to Advance Directives: Organ Donation*

A Physician's Guide to Advance Directives: Power of Attorney for Healthcare*

These resources are for educational purposes only.
