Are You Using Illinois’ Powerful Free Resource?
Posted on: 4/9/2019

With our state embroiled in an opioid overdose and abuse crisis, Illinois’ Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) has become a critical tool for prescribers.

By using this free resource, you can quickly check your patient’s controlled substance prescription drug history to determine whether they may already be getting prescriptions for narcotics.

Further, at the start of 2018, a new law took effect requiring all prescribers possessing an Illinois controlled substance license to:

  • Register with the Illinois' PMP
  • Document an attempt to check the PMP before writing an initial prescriptions of Schedule II narcotics, such as opioids

Again, all those licensed to prescribe controlled substances in the state of Illinois – regardless of whether they prescribe opioids – must register with the PMP
