  • Victory! Legislators Push Workers’ Compensation Legislation into Law

    Last week, the Illinois House of Representatives voted to override Governor Rauner’s amendatory veto of Senate Bill 904 by a margin of 110-2. The House’s action comes after an earlier Senate vote of 55-1 in favor of the override. 

    Senate Bill 904 took effect upon the House action and is now law.  

    Thank you to all who advocated on this issue! 

    The new law delivers important safeguards to protect injured workers’ access to medical care through the workers’ compensation system.

  • What Physicians Need to Know About Concealed Carry of Firearms, Mandatory Reporting

    The Firearm Concealed Carry Act authorizes Illinois to license individuals to carry firearms concealed or partially concealed on their person and in their vehicles. 

    The Act also contains reporting obligations, including responsibilities for physicians.

    Applications are now being accepted for several positions. The ISMS nominating committee will consider applications and recommend a slate of candidates for election at the 2019 ISMS Annual Meeting. 

    Any member with at least four years of ISMS membership and two years of service/experience at ISMS or another medical professional organization is eligible to serve.

    Applications will be accepted by the nominating committee through Dec. 28, 2018, at 4:45 p.m.
