New Law: All Illinois Prescribers Required to Register with the PMP by January 1
Posted on: 12/19/2017

Last week Governor Rauner signed Senate Bill 772 into law, requiring all prescribers possessing an Illinois controlled substance license to register with Illinois' Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) by Jan. 1, 2018. There is also a new requirement to access the PMP before writing an initial prescription for a Schedule II narcotic, such as an opioid.*

If you are licensed to prescribe controlled substances in the state of Illinois – regardless of whether you actually prescribe opioids – and are not already registered with the PMP, visit the PMP online to initiate your registration. If you experience problems registering, contact the PMP at 217-524-1311, or by email.

Learn more by accessing our webinar summarizing the function of the PMP and how physicians can use the program to track controlled substance prescriptions. Also included is how prescribers can recognize clinical issues associated with opioid medications and anxiolytics.

If you have questions, contact the ISMS advocacy team by calling 800-782-4767 ext. 1470, or by sending an email.

*Some exceptions apply. ISMS is developing a detailed overview of the law and its requirements for checking the PMP.
