Medical assistants are not licensed in Illinois, and have no practice act or administrative rules. Exactly what medical assistants can and cannot do is often confusing.

That’s why ISMS developed a new medical legal guideline, Medical Assistant Scope of Practice, which outlines the function of medical assistants and clarifies their tasks.
