Illinois House Pushes Budget Package Into Law!
Posted on: 7/7/2017

Budget-has-passed

The Illinois House of Representatives voted yesterday to override vetoes of spending and tax increase measures, bringing the two-year budget impasse to a dramatic close.

ISMS is reviewing the legislation and the impact it will have on Illinois physicians. The budget is complicated, with overlapping effective dates, and touches on several areas related to health care.

Last week, U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow ordered the state to pay $586 million per month toward Medicaid bills. In addition, the judge ordered Illinois to pay $2 billion to managed care organizations, which cover 60 percent of all Medicaid recipients in the state. However, court-ordered payments – including those required by other judicial decrees handed down over the past two years – now exceed Illinois’ monthly revenues.

We will also review Medicaid and the significant backlog of bills owed for state workers’ health care and report back on our findings.
