Make Sure IDFPR Has Your Email Address! Important for 2017 Licensure Renewal
Posted on: 2/15/2017
IDFPR’s website for renewing medical and controlled substance licenses is not yet open. Licensure renewal in Illinois for physicians is expected to begin sometime in early April.

It's 2017, and that means medical license and controlled substance license renewal is right around the corner. But not so fast – the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has made some changes to the renewal process.

New this year:

  1. IDFPR will no longer mail out paper notifications to physicians.
  2. Instead, you will be notified only once via email of the upcoming medical license renewal deadline; the email will also contain your PIN number, which is necessary for online licensure renewal.
  3. If IDFPR does not have your current email address on file, you likely will not receive any notification at all from the state.

What should physicians do now?

  1. Visit IDFPR’s Address Change - Lookup web page to verify, change or add your mailing address, email address or telephone number.
  2. Once at this site, enter your medical license number, social security number and date of birth.
  3. Next, select "search." The following screen will allow you to add or edit your information.

Please note: If IDFPR does not have your correct social security number or correct date of birth in its system, you will not be able to gain online access to make any changes to your information. For assistance, contact IDFPR by phone at 800-560-6420.
