Some of your patients may want to take their Halloween costumes to the next level by wearing colored contacts. These lenses are available at malls and beauty supply stores, and also just a click away on the internet, with ads touting FDA approval and fast shipping.

But before purchasing werewolf, goblin or wicked eyes, your patients need to understand that colored contacts can permanently damage eyes and even cause irreversible blindness.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is reminding the public that purchasing contacts from any source other than a licensed eye care professional or pharmacist could be dangerous to a patient’s eyesight.
