  • ISMS-Backed Provisions Will Improve Medical Cannabis Program - Bill Just Needs the Gov.'s Ink

ISMS is urging Governor Rauner to sign Senate Bill 10 into law, which would make changes to the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act.

Key provisions initiated by ISMS would:

    • Require the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to electronically submit the names of all approved registrants for medical cannabis to the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).
    • Remove the requirement that physicians certify that, in their professional opinion, a patient under their care for a qualifying medical condition would be "likely to receive therapeutic or palliative benefit from the medical use of cannabis to treat or alleviate the patient's debilitating medical condition or symptoms associated with the debilitating medical condition.” Physicians would still certify that they are treating or managing treatment of the patient’s debilitating medical condition and that the patient has one of the qualifying conditions.

Thanks to ISMS advocacy, the program promises to become much less burdensome for doctors and provide important data on patients’ history with medical cannabis.
