    Medical Education Should be "Off the Hook" from Sunshine Act Reporting

    ISMS joined 102 other state and national medical societies to urge support of federal legislation ( H.R. 5539) that would clarify reporting exemptions under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act. The exemptions in the bill include certain payments and other transfers of value used to support medical educational programs and materials.
    Efforts to provide up-to-date medical knowledge, which improves patient outcomes, should not be limited or hindered!  

    CMS continues to release updates to its final rule issued on Oct. 31, 2014. As always, ISMS will monitor the information and provide updates as warranted. Stay tuned!

    If you treat Medicare patients, you may be eligible to apply for a meaningful use hardship exception to avoid a financial penalty in 2015.

    did Did Medicare Overpay for Medicare Part B? Here's What to Do

    Under the Affordable Care Act, Medical practices are obligated to report to their contractor, National Government Services (NGS), for any Medicare Part B overpayments.
    If you identify that Medicare paid your practice in excess of what was due, submit a request for recoupment via this request form; include the primary insurance Explanation of Benefits. All providers have an obligation to report and refund overpayments within 60 days of when the overpayment was identified.
      
    For overpayments as a result of a billing error, submit this completed request form; include the reasons for the overpayment.

    Check out the AMA's Health Workforce Mapper, illustrating key geographic patient population and health care workforce data. Illinois doctors can zoom in on the state's demographics to make fact-based decisions about where they should start or expand their practices based on access-to-care needs and other factors.
