  • The Medical License Renewal Deadline Has Come and Gone. Now What?

If you did not renew your medical license and/or controlled substance license by the July 31, 2014, deadline, here's what you need to do:

    Renew as soon as possible!

As of August 1, physicians have 90 days to renew in order to avoid a lapse in their licensure. And by the way … the renewal fee is now $920. The controlled substance licenses are still $15 per each location.

How to renew after the deadline

You must now renew your medical license and/or a controlled substance license by either online renewal or mailing in a paper renewal. The ISMS hotline is no longer functioning.

To renew online, visit the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)'s website, and remember to indicate on the bottom of the page that you'd also like to renew your controlled substance license.

If you renewed your medical license but discovered that you forgot to update your controlled substance license, log back into IDFPR's website, enter your license number and PIN, and then scroll to "Renewal of Controlled Substance license" at the bottom of the page.

For general questions about license renewal, please contact Audrey Vanagunas, 800-782-4767 ext. 2465, or send an email.
