  • Senate Bill 741 Restores Some Medicaid Cuts, Keeps Poison Center Open

This week Governor Quinn signed into law SB 741, a health care bill that reinstates some Medicaid cuts made two years ago under the SMART Act and secures funding for the foreseeable future for the Illinois Poison Center, which was on the verge of closing.

Other provisions in SB 741 include:

    • Reauthorizing hospital assessments, which provide billions in revenue to state hospitals with federal matching funds at no cost to the state budget.|

    • Restoring previous cuts to adult dental and podiatric services for Medicaid clients.

    • Removing persons with severe mental illness and children in coordinated care entities from restrictions imposed by the four-drug prior authorization limits.

    • Establishing important requirements for Accountable Care Entities and Managed Care Organizations.
