  • Illinois' Only Poison Center to be Shuttered June 30 without Legislative Action

IPC-home-webFor heart attack patients, a cardiologist is consulted; for a stroke, a neurologist. In the case of a poisoned patient, the Illinois Poison Center (IPC) is the resource for physicians. In fact, it's the only remaining poison control, information and treatment center left in the Prairie State.

The IPC will close its doors on June 30 unless long-term sustainable funding is acquired.

Call to action: Please urge your state senator to vote for S.B. 2674, which would create a dedicated and sustainable funding source for the IPC.

No other resource providing trusted information and treatment advice on hazardous substances is available to physicians and Illinois residents. Your patients, who might have otherwise been safely triaged for home care by the team of poison experts, will be forced to call 9-1-1 when faced with a poison emergency.
