  • There's a Patient on Line 1 Asking About Medical Cannabis. Do You Know What to Say?

    medcannabis

If the answer is no, it's time to get acquainted with the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program, now in full swing.

In a nutshell, the program allows physicians to certify patients for medical cannabis cards if the patient has one of the approved qualifying conditions.

Please note: It's critical that you use the correct terminology when speaking with patients. Physicians certify a patient for medical cannabis - they do not prescribe medical cannabis.

Cannabis remains a Schedule I drug under federal and Illinois Controlled Substance Acts. Providing a patient with a prescription for medical cannabis is no different than giving them a prescription for heroin, peyote or LSD. In other words, illegal!

Learn more with ISMS' medical legal guideline, Tips for Certifying Patients for Medical Cannabis Cards. The guide covers billing methods, risks and benefits, the varying potency of medical cannabis, important legal considerations and the current list of approved qualifying conditions.
